It's no secret that I love cars. If it has a motor and you can operate it, then I want to have a turn behind the wheel (or yoke, or controls, or touch pad, or whatever is used to move and control the thing).

While reading Oppo this morning I read a post from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about wanting to see the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . This got me to thinking, what would the aircraft/spacecraft equivalent of some of my favorite cars be? Instead of just thinking about it while I sit at my computer enjoying a cup of smoldering melt, I figured I might as well make a little list. I'm going to keep it to aircraft/spacecraft featured in popular media (TV, Film, Anime).

Annnd here we go:

Autozam AZ-1: Happy, quirky, Mid-engine rear drive !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Able to hang with the bigger boys despite it's diminutive size.

I think that if this design were to be taken to the space age it would eventually evolve into something like Rick Hunter's Fan Jet from Robotech. Small personal transport with a rocket booster for that extra poowweeeeeer!

Next up, Scion FR-S/GT-86/BRZ. Another small, nimble coupe that loves to be abused and pushed hard. Designed with a low center of gravity and the ability to stop and turn on a dime (if you put sticky tires on it).

When fitted with a spoiler (which I know many won't like) it reminds me a fair bit of Spikes Swordfish II from Cowboy Bebop. Fast, manual control for almost everything, trust vectoring air brake, and highly prized by it's owner.

Kinja'd!!!

Moving on, the Focus ST. Smooth wedge shaped front drive wizard packed with enough computers and features that you want to own 3 of them just to let your buddies go for a drive with you to see who is the fastest.

With all the techno-wizzardry and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , a couple aircrafts came to mind. One was the spacecraft from Flight of the Navigator. Mainly due to it's ability to change shape depending on speed and circumstances, not unlike the active brake force distribution used to combat torque steer and improve handling in the ST.

Ultimately, due to the amount of technology in it and my fear that MyFord Touch will one day become sentient, I think the Stealth UCAV EDI is a better fit.

Now onto my daily driver, the Gen2 Speed3. Ahh yes, the Speed3, the unruly, maniacal, bulbous-nosed, Cheshire cat grin wearing, bi-polar little bastard of a hot hatch. I'm fairly certain this vehicle was designed by someone that wants me to buy a new set of tires every 12 months.

This car is angry, it wants to get in trouble and it doesn't care if you just want a nice leisurely drive. It's got all the power up front and ready to snap the wheel away from you and toss you into the wall at a moments notice. Low power to full power at 2700 RPM? Yes, It'll do that for you. With it's 60/40 front/rear weight distribution, and "Dat Nose". The best match for this that I can think of is a Pod Racer. Yes, I said it, a Pod Racer. Big engine up front, driver along for the ride outback, and some funky looking designs.

And finally we come to the Miata. No list on Oppo is complete with out one of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

With the wind in your hair (or scalp if you are follicly challenged), the ability to shift and juke with just the slightest input of the controls, there was really only one aircraft that came to mind for this one. Nausicaa's Mahve Power Glider. Small, light, fantastically maneuverable, and used to do amazing things.

So there is my list of some of my favorite cars and what I think their Aircraft/Spacecraft equivalent would be. Agree? Disagree? Have combinations of your own that you'd like to propose? Leave them in the comments!

Want to burn me at the stake for blasphemous remarks and general stupidity, leave that in the comments as well, but keep it civil, personal attack comments get dismissed. Remember, this is just a list and a personal opinion.

Cheers!

Now I think I may need a green afro and blue suit to go with my FR-S.

Is there any way for me to "like" this post/thread? No? Ahh well... Consider this a "like" then..

I've got nothing to add, apart from the fact that i like the way your brain works. This list is AWESOME.

Edit: I LOVE the BRZ/GT-86 with a wing... It's just way over the top :)
